'Why I'm Fine With the GOP Losing': Randy Keener's Election Night List Strikes a Nerve

As first shared by Randy Keener of The Watchman's Warning, a lot of conservative Christians are not shedding tears tonight over the prospect of Republicans losing this election. In a Facebook post on election night, Randy laid out his reasons in a short, numbered list:

Why I'm fine with the GOP losing this election: 1. The Epstein cover-up. 2. The war in Iran. 3. Inflation and high gas prices. 4. Making Socialist-style promises. 5. Lying about Socialist-style promises. 6. Republicans in NC failing to pass constitutional carry despite years of opportunity.

He closed with this: "Trump and the GOP were given a mandate, and per usual, they fumbled the ball. Hopefully, losing is the reminder they need."

Those are Randy's points, in his words, and you can read his full post on Facebook here. I've been thinking the same thing, and I put it this way on X:

Power Without Purpose

That's my frustration in one sentence. Christians were told for years that if we just got the right people in charge, things would change. Then the right people got in charge, and a lot of the people who voted for them feel like they have very little to show for it. Randy's list is one man's version of that disappointment, and judging by the response my post got, he is not alone.

The Bible has a lot to say about leaders who are handed authority and waste it. "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn" (Proverbs 29:2). God holds rulers accountable for what they do with the trust they are given: "For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required" (Luke 12:48).

Our Hope Was Never in a Party

Here's the bigger lesson for Bible believing Christians. No party is our saviour. "Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help" (Psalm 146:3). "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes" (Psalm 118:9). When believers start treating an election like a revival, they will always be let down.

That doesn't mean we stop voting or stop caring. We should still pray "for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty" (1 Timothy 2:1-2). It means we hold politicians to their promises and keep our hope where it belongs. Win or lose tonight, Jesus Christ is still King, and "the kingdom is the LORD's: and he is the governor among the nations" (Psalm 22:28).
