John Cooper is 100% WRONG About Christian Music...

It is no secret that I have been a critic of contemporary Christian music, especially Christian rock and Christian rap, for years. This is not about secondary preferences in worship styles, and it is not legalism. It is about who God is. God is thrice holy, and you can't take something known for its wickedness, slap the word Christian on it, and keep behaving the same way. John Cooper of Skillet has now put out a video arguing that the song Monster is a Christian song, and in this video I explain why I am calling shenanigans on that.

Some background on where I'm coming from: I got saved at 18, went to Bible college, and went to work in Kenya planting churches with African pastors. Those men taught me things about the charismatic movement and the New Apostolic Reformation that horrified me: it was a form of the occult rebranded with Christian vocabulary. That is what led to our Third Adam documentary series.

I am a fixed cannon. I am not shooting at everything that moves. I am firing at one target, the charismatic movement and everything circling it, and a professing brother only gets flak from me when he walks into that line of fire. In this video I lay out why I believe John Cooper's ministry has been tied to charismatic, apostolic-style church circles for most of his career, and why touring with secular rock acts while saying we love the Lord sends a dangerous message.

Evangelicalism has tried to practice Christianity with no rules and no boundaries, but no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation (2 Peter 1:20). We can't get this loose with our definition of Christianity or of Christian music without real theological damage being done to people. I'm not mad at anyone. The enemy is Satan and bad doctrine, and I can go to the judgment seat of Christ knowing I told the truth.
