The Brass Shields and Ministry Update! - Spencer Smith

First, a ministry update. I'm working on Third Adam 5 right now, and next year we have some big trips planned: a Doctrine Matters conference in Kenya, another one in the Netherlands, and a trip to Japan to preach at churches near military bases. God is taking this work worldwide, with work in Japan, the Netherlands, Kenya, and the Dominican Republic. If the Lord leads you to support the ministry, you can become a channel member or give through the PayPal link in the video description, and above all, please pray for us.
Then I share a message I preached at Lighthouse Baptist from 2 Chronicles 12. King Rehoboam, the grandson of David, "did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD" (2 Chronicles 12:14). All of life's issues are ultimately heart issues. The outside is a reflection of what is on the inside.
When Shishak king of Egypt came against Jerusalem, he carried away the treasures of the house of the LORD and the shields of gold that Solomon had made. Rehoboam's answer was to make shields of brass in their place (2 Chronicles 12:9-10), something that looked like the real thing so they could keep up the appearance that nothing had been lost. I believe that is what many churches are doing today, and it is what cover-up culture has done to fundamentalism: sweep the sin under the rug and keep the exterior polished.
Laodicea said, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing, and knew not that it was wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked (Revelation 3:17). If we spend all our time preparing the exterior and none preparing the heart, we are trading gold shields for brass shields. May God give us hearts that hunger for Him more than for the food, fellowship, and formality of church.
